Netflix to Debut 'Story of a Crime' Anthology Series Inspired by Real Events


LOS ANGELES – Netflix, the world's leading internet entertainment service, today announced the Story of a Crime , a new anthology series about controversial crimes that have shaken different countries for decades and that generated social confusion, accusations of corruption and the search for justice.

"We are thrilled to explore new formats, invest in international talent and partner with the best storytellers from around the world to create content that travels and resonates globally," said Erik Barmack, vice president of International Originals at Netflix. "Crime is a very popular genre around the world, and we are very excited to bring this new anthology series proposal, with an international touch, to Netflix members everywhere," he added.

The first season of the franchise will feature the case of Luis Donaldo Colosio, the politician and Mexican presidential candidate who was killed in a campaign event in Tijuana in 1994. The 8-episode season will begin production this week in Mexico City and will be available exclusively to Netflix members worldwide in 2019.

The series is produced by Dynamo for Netflix and starring Jorge A. Jiménez ( Narcos, Machete Kills, Hermoso silencio ), Ilse Salas ( Cantinflas, Sr. 'vila ), Alberto Guerra ( Ingobernable, The Lord of the Skies ), Gustavo S'nchez Parra ( Amores perros, Hombre en llamas ), Mart'n Altomaro ( Mita and mita, Rudo y Cursi ), Lisa Owen ( The Lord of the Skies, The Unusual Catfish ) and Ari Brickman ( Sense8, Refunds are not accepted ), among others. With Rodrigo Santos as the main script writer, Historia de un Crimen : Colosio will be produced by Andrés Calder'n and Juan Uruchurtu, and directed by Hiromi Kamata and Natalia Berist'in.

E! Renews the Reality Series ‘Very Cavallari’ for Season 2

LOS ANGELES – E! has greenlit a second season of breakout hit “Very Cavallari” starring celebrity entrepreneur Kristin Cavallari. The second season of the docu-series, set to premiere in 2019, will continue to follow the reality superstar’s life in Nashville and will feature 10 one-hour episodes. The first season of “Very Cavallari” has seen consistent week on week growth in all key demos and currently ranks as one of the youngest and most affluent series on ad-supported cable and broadcast with a median age of 36. “Very Cavallari” is produced by T Group Productions with Jenny Daly, Rob Lobl, and Kristin Cavallari serving as Executive Producers.

“Kristin is uniquely aspirational and relatable, and our audience has embraced her long awaited return to reality TV featuring her life as a businesswoman, boss, mom and wife,” said Amy Introcaso-Davis, EVP, Development and Production at E! “We look forward to continue watching Kristin expand her businesses, manage her headstrong staff, and of course we can’t wait for more hilarious moments from fan favorite Jay Cutler.”

On the season one finale of “Very Cavallari,”airing Sunday, August 26that 10 PM ET/PT, the day of the Uncommon James store opening finally arrives, and the launch party is a success. However several huge mistakes by her staff on opening day push Kristin to her breaking point, Brittainy worries about her position in the company and Shannon helps Mike pop the question to Taylor.

On the first season of “Very Cavallari,” fans saw a whole new side of Kristin as she worked toward opening her flagship store for Uncommon James in Nashville and balanced being a boss, business woman, wife and friend. This season also saw Kristin and her husband Jay Cutler decide to trade city life for farm life when their offer gets accepted on a new home, social media director, Shannon and brand manager Brittainy butting heads at the office and plenty of personal drama served up by her staff, including a surprise pregnancy.

CBS's 'The Big Bang Theory' to End in 2019 Season

LOS ANGELES – CBS’s top-rated comedy, “The Big Bang Theory,” will end its successful run in May 2019 as the longest-running multi-camera series in television history. Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions will bring the Emmy-nominated comedy series to a close at the end of season 12 with a record-breaking 279 episodes.

In a joint statement, Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said, “We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring ‘The Big Bang Theory’ to an epic creative close.”

The final season of “The Big Bang Theory” will debut Monday, September 24 (8/7c) on CBS before moving to its regular time period on Thursday, September 27 (8/7c).

The series, which debuted in 2007 and airs in syndication around the world, has received 52 Emmy nominations and 10 wins to date (though has never won for Outstanding Comedy Series), and 7 Golden Globe nominations.

In addition to centering many of its episodes in the worlds of science and technology, “The Big Bang Theory” enjoys a healthy appreciation and support from the scientific community at large, including having a bee species (Euglossa bazinga), a jellyfish species (Bazinga Rieki) and a monkey at the Columbus Zoo (Dr. Sheldon Cooper) named in the show’s honor.

In 2015, the first-ever UCLA scholarship created by and named for a television series, “The Big Bang Theory” Scholarship support undergraduate students in need of financial aid who are pursuing their higher education Endowment, was established to in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
