ESPN's Bob Ley Takes a Six-Month Leave of Absence

LOS ANGELES, Calif. –  Bob Ley, longtime ESPN anchor and host of “Outside the Lines” announced on Wednesday morning that he will be taking a six month break from the network.

“Beginning Oct. 1 I'll be taking a six-month sabbatical from my @OTLonESPN duties. The idea of stepping back to re-charge is fully 100% mine, and one I've been considering for a while. I truly appreciate the company's understanding and cooperation. -30,” Ley tweeted.

Ley, who has been ESPN's longest-serving commenter, having joined the network on its third day of broadcast, said that he's been considering such a break for a while and that the decision is 100 percent his own.

The network said Kate Fagan, Jeremy Schaap and Ryan Smith will take over Ley’s hosting duties.

ESPN Tweeted: “We completely support Bob’s decision and look forward to his return April 1. In the meantime, @OTLonESPN is in great hands with @JeremySchaap, @KateFagan3, @RyanSmithtv and the award-winning production team.”

Ley is scheduled to return to the air on Monday, April 1, 2019.
