Tara Reid Drops her $100 Million Lawsuit Against 'Sharknado' Producers



LOS ANGELES – Tara Reid has dropped her $100 million lawsuit against the producers of the film series “Sharknado” whom she sued, claiming they were wrongfully profiting by using her image, according to press reports Monday.

The actress has reportedly filed court documents informing the court she that she is dropping all claims against the “Sharknado” producers and is now dismissing her lawsuit.

According to the documents, the “action is dismissed by the Plaintiff in its entirety.”

The Blast had originally reported that in her lawsuit Reid accused Asylum Entertainment and SYFY Media Productions of false endorsement and misappropriation of celebrity likeness.

Reid claimed that the defendants had wrongfully licensed the rights to use her likeness, without her permission, to “manufacturers of slot machines, gambling products and beer makers, who in turn have marketed their product with her likeness and continue to wrongfully trade and profit therefrom.”

SyFy Picks up George RR Martin Pilot for 'NightFlyers'

LOS ANGELES - SyFy has picked up the pilot for NIGHTFLYERS based on author George R.R. Martin’s (“Game of Thrones”) novella and the 1987 film of the same name. Jeff Buhler (“Jacob’s Ladder”) wrote the adaptation for television. In NIGHTFLYERS, in the hope of making contact with alien life, eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer - a ship with a small tightknit crew and a reclusive captain. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place they start to question each other -- and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.

“We are looking forward to diving deeper into George R.R. Martin’s chilling world of NIGHTFLYERS,” said Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President Scripted Development for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, “The script that Jeff delivered encapsulates this classic sci-fi horror story and adapts it to a platform where we can truly explore the depths of madness.”

From Universal Cable Productions, NIGHTFLYERS will be executive produced by Gene Klein (SUITS), David Bartis (SUITS) and Doug Liman (“Live. Die. Repeat”) of Hypnotic; Buhler; Alison Rosenzweig (“Jacob’s Ladder,” “Windtalkers”) and Michael Gaeta (“Jacob’s Ladder”) of Gaeta Rosenzweig Films; and Lloyd Ivan Miller and Alice P. Neuhauser of Lloyd Ivan Miller Productions. Robert Jaffe (“Nightflyers,” - 1987) will produce.

NIGHTFLYERS was announced in development as part of SyFy's reboot, which includes previously announced series pick-ups for the highly-anticipated Superman prequel KRYPTON and graphic novel adaptation HAPPY!, starring Christopher Meloni.

SyFy's 'Face Off' Set to Return on Jan. 24

LOS ANGELES - Syfy’s award-winning series FACE OFF returns for Season 11 on Tuesday, January 24 at 9/8c with 16 all-star contestants vying for a grand prize and the honor of being Hollywood's next great special effects make-up artist. Hosted by make-up effects royalty McKenzie Westmore, the series returns with elaborate never-before-seen challenges to test their skills as they battle it out for a coveted second chance at victory. FACE OFF: ALL STARS was announced this morning on the TODAY show as two audience members were treated to spectacular Halloween make-overs by contestants Stella Sensel (Season 7) and Tyler Green (Season 6).  

McKenzie Westmore, a member of a multi-generational family dynasty whose name is synonymous with the make-up effects field, returns to host FACE OFF: ALL STARS, as do the series’ popular judges, multiple Academy Award® winner Ve Neill (“Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The Amazing Spider-Man”), industry veteran Glenn Hetrick (“The Hunger Games,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”), and creature designer Neville Page (“Avatar,” “Prometheus”). World-renowned Hollywood make-up artist Michael Westmore (“Star Trek”) continues as contestant mentor.

Syfy Orders 'Superman' Prequel to Pilot


The Superman franchise is getting a prequel after Syfy announced that it has ordered "Krypton" to series (Syfy photo).

LOS ANGELES - Syfy today announced it has greenlit to pilot KRYPTON, the much-anticipated Superman prequel set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet.  KRYPTON will follow Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

KRYPTON will be executive produced by David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “The Dark Knight” trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. Damian Kindler (“Sleepy Hollow”) will serve as executive producer/showrunner; Colm McCarthy (“She Who Brings Gifts,” “Peaky Blinders”) is set to direct and co-executive produce the pilot. The pilot teleplay and story is written by David S. Goyer & Ian Goldberg (“Once Upon a Time,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”). KRYPTON will be produced by Warner Horizon Television and is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC Comics.

“KRYPTON is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe,” said Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”

KRYPTON comes on the heels of the pilot greenlight for PROTOTYPE, written by Tony Basgallop (“24: Live Another Day”) and currently in production. Additional high-profile scripted projects in development at Syfy include an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s classic novel BRAVE NEW WORLD from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, and HYPERION, with executive producers Bradley Cooper, Graham King and Todd Phillips.

In 2016, Syfy’s powerhouse lineup includes HUNTERS, from “The Walking Dead” executive producer Gale Anne Hurd; the second season of the thriller series 12 MONKEYS; INCORPORATED, from Matt Damon, Ben Affleck & Jennifer Todd’s Pearl Street Films; the Halloween anthology series CHANNEL ZERO: CANDLE COVE; and critically-acclaimed first seasons of THE EXPANSE and THE MAGICIANS (both set for second seasons in 2017).
