Nick McLoughlin Joins Cast of 'Dmacina'

LOS ANGELES, Calif.  – Actor Nick McLoughlin has joined the cast of the upcoming science fiction series “Dmacina” from filmmaker Alex Pucci.

“I’m extremely grateful to be a part of this amazing series, spearheaded by Mr. Alex Pucci,” McLoughlin said. “I’ve always had a fascination for science fictions complex characters that demand a lot from you and take you to a place that challenge you as an artist”

McLoughlin portrays Cameron, the founder of Dmacina, a company that builds life-like robots that are meant to serve humans to eliminate people’s propensity for aggression and violence. However Cameron’s business partner Nathan (Jeremy Sless) discovers a dark secret about the androids’; and in turn puts the partnership and the fate of the human race in the balance.

The series is the newest for Pucci who is known for such films as “Violence of the Mind,” (2013), “Indiscretion” (2013), “Frat House Massacre,” (2008) and many others.

“After the extensive audition process, we finally found the perfect choice for the leading role of the founder in Nick,” Pucci said. “I’m excited to see what he can bring to the franchise and some preliminary filming has already proved our investment in him is an invaluable one! Here’s to ‘Dmacina.’”

McLoughlin comes to the series after completing leading roles in the drama “Comfort” directed by 2 time Academy Award Nominee, Stephane Ceretti, the award winning comedy “A Stephen Corwin Rockumentary”  (If you’re a fan of Steve Irwin, check this one out) & upcoming thriller “WTF” from director Peter Herro (“O Come All Ye Faithful”).

“I usually portray the romantic lead or comedic characters, so this is the other side of the coin where I’m going to be playing a darker character that people don’t really understand, and that’s enticing” he said. “It’s a challenging role with a lot of complexity that taps into the very nature of what makes us humans tick”. “It’s going to be artistically fulfilling, portraying someone like him after playing the ‘good’ guy all the time!”

The New Zealand native has appeared in the web series “The S(eries)” and the films “Hello I’m Famous” and “Pigeonholed.”  He would also earn accolades for his leading performance in the play “The One With Friends” A play designed to destigmatize depression through the use of art, which was staged in Los Angeles and New York before sold out crowds.

Filming Has Begun on 'Meg,' a Sci-Fi Thriller Starring Jason Statham

Jason Statham stars in sci-fi thriller "Meg" now shooting in New Zealand.
LOS ANGELES - Principal photography is underway in New Zealand on the science fiction action thriller “Meg,” being directed by Jon Turteltaub (the “National Treasure” movies, “Last Vegas”). The film stars Jason Statham (“Spy,” “Furious 7,” “The Expendables” films). Award-winning Chinese actress Li Bingbing (“Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “Forbidden Kingdom,” “The Message”) has been set to star opposite Statham.

A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below…bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time.

Rounding out the international main cast of “Meg” are New Zealander Cliff Curtis (“The Dark Horse,” “Risen,” TV’s “Fear the Walking Dead”), Rainn Wilson (TV’s “The Office,” “Super”), Ruby Rose (“xXx: Return of Xander Cage,” TV’s “Orange is the New Black”), Winston Chao (“Skiptrace,” “Kabali”), Page Kennedy (TV’s “Rush Hour”), Jessica McNamee (“The Vow,” TV’s “Sirens”), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (“The BFG,” TV’s “The Missing”), Robert Taylor (“Focus,” TV’s “Longmire”), Sophia Shuya Cai (“Somewhere Only We Know”), and Masi Oka (TV’s “Hawaii Five-0,” “Heroes”).
