LOS ANGELES - The city of Angels has won the big lottery for "Star Wars" filmmaker George Lucas' proposed Museum of Narrative Art, according to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti today.

The museum will house Lucas' extensive collection of art and film memorabilia and will be built in the park located next to USC. The veteran filmmaker selected the location over a competing site on Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay.

“It will soon bring unrivaled opportunities to be immersed in stories told on canvas and celluloid," said Garcetti in a statement.

The museum will be constructed in a parcel adjacent to the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Natural History Museum, and a museum of African-American history and art in Exposition Park near downtown Los Angeles.

The $1 billion museum will house works from Edgar Degas, Pierre-August Renoir, as well as works from Lucas' own collection, that celebrates "the power of visual storytelling in a setting focused on narrative painting, illustration, photography, film, animation, and digital art."
